Aw, masks, where the magic happens in a facial. When we think of a facial, we usually picture a face with a mask on it. Whether we are giving or receiving the facial, we envision how the brush feels against our (or clients) skin while a mask is luxuriously placed, eyes shut, and a space is set to relax. As an aesthetician, we are able to go into our mask tool box and find the most effective and result oriented mask while providing an experience. Masks consist of vitamins, botanical extracts, oils combined in clay, yogurts, powders, seaweed, and hydrating bases.
If we really look at the way mask’s function there are two types of masks, setting and non-setting. Non-setting masks are those that are designed to stay moist and usually provide a more hydrating effect. Setting masks harden, dry, or create a complete barrier on the skin. Clay, algae, peel off, and sheet masks would fall within this category. Cream, gel, and yogurt-based masks make up this category.
